The Surgical Endoscopy Nurse provides vital nursing assistance during patients’ endoscopic procedures. Nurses are responsible for assisting patients during sedation, monitoring them, relaying aftercare instructions, and responding efficiently and effectively to emergency situations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers information regarding care and medications to patients in comprehensible terms.
- Assess patient conditions, monitor behaviors, and collaborate effectively with the MD.
- Keeps the patient informed throughout the duration of the procedure.
- Prepares the instruments, equipment, and supplies for the procedure.
- Maintains strict patient data procedures in compliance to the Data Privacy Act of 2002.
- Administers oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous medications to patients.
- Provides technical assistance to MD throughout the procedure.
- Properly collects and handles specimens for histopathology.
- Monitors postoperative vitals and carries out postoperative orders closely.
- Completes all necessary documents, including patient notes and discharge documents.
- Responds to emergency situations with speed and expertise to provide optimal care and
support. - Answers patient questions and provides take-home materials for further information.
- Other tasks are assigned from time to time to assist with other HDSI business functions
Background and Qualifications
- Registered Nurse Credentials
- Updated ACLS & BLS Certifications
- Efficiently trained in endoscopic instruments and procedures.
- Proficient in using endoscopic equipment.
- Detail-oriented and observant.
- Demonstrates experience in Inpatient/outpatient care.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Good organizational skills.
